Overview

1.Provide ecological consultancy services to external and internal clients.
2.Take responsibility for undertaking work to high quality standard and within agreed project working hours and budget.
3.Have excellent written and verbal communications skills and produce clear and well-written reports that meet project objectives.
4.Work well with others, adopting current working practices, maintaining professionalism and delivering high quality product.
5.Undertake fieldwork, data management, writing free-standing reports and preparing ecological sections of environmental assessments and EIAs, alone and leading teams.
6.Provide specialist bat/bird ecology skills that complement the wider ecological services of Mouchel.
7.Contributing to bid and proposal preparation.
8.Develop excellent client relationships, and assist with business development and marketing.
9.Develop ecological knowledge and consultancy services through continual professional development, applying standard methods and demonstrating the ability to critically analyse ecological data
10.Demonstrate a professional and pragmatic attitude towards ecological issues on project sites and respect the chain of responsibility by consulting with, and if necessary, referring decision making to more senior members of the ecology team in order to best represent the needs of clients.
11.Maintain excellent time keeping and organisation, and be readily contactable by senior members of staff through email and telephone
12.Take responsibility for health and safety in all aspects of work, completing relevant training, qualifications and risk assessments as dictated by Mouchel procedures and those of clients
13.Comply with Mouchel’s policies and procedures, including weekly completion of a timesheet
14.Work may require travel in the UK or abroad.
15.Other duties that may be required at the employers request.

About You
Qualifications –
Undergraduate degree in Nature Conservation, Ecology, Biology, or related environmental subject
Full Member of IEEM (or equivalent)
Full clean driving licence

Knowledge and Experience –
Thorough understanding of current UK legislation relevant to ecological issues, and practical knowledge of current standard methods and good practice

Experience of the protected species licensing process, for example, having held a protected species licence.

Commercial experience within environmental consultancy.

Experienced in leading fieldwork, interpreting data, reporting to clients and preparing ecological sections of environmental assessments and EIAs .

Preference will be given to a candidate with specialist skills in bat ecology at a high level of competency
Technical skills –
Commercially aware and able to assist development of ecological business development, marketing, proposals, projects, environmental assessments and EIAs.

Proven experience in building client relationships and developing staff, demonstrating professional integrity while promoting and representing company interests.

Wide experience of ecological consultancy services informing development projects

Exceptional organisational skills and the ability to plan and implement project work independently

The ability to work unsociable hours, outdoors, and often in difficult weather conditions whilst undertaking field studies, as dictated by the ecology of wildlife

Fluency in the use of common computer packages to organise resources, analyse data and produce reporting documents

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

A strong team working ethic, demonstrating a positive influence to solve problems and achieve project goals

Experience of using ArcGIS for making maps and organising spatial data would be advantageous
