Position

Do you know the difference between Aphrodita and Ophelia? Would you like a unique opportunity to work with benthic specialists in a company focussing on all areas of environmental consultancy?

Are you passionate about marine surveys, species identification and love being in the laboratory with your microscope? If so, then we would be delighted to hear from you! We have an opportunity for a mid-level benthic taxonomist to join our growing team in Guildford, made up of marine taxonomists.

As part of our marine team, you will be involved in benthic faunal sample analysis for a variety of exciting projects from both the UK and abroad. You will be given the opportunity to further your taxonomic identification skills from world experts and will become involved in other areas such as marine surveys, widening your skillset. You will need to already have experience of working in a commercial laboratory, processing benthic faunal samples.

This mid-level position is available on a permanent basis. You’ll be based at our modern office on the picturesque Surrey Research Park in Guildford, so the successful candidate will live within commuting distance or be prepared to relocate. Ideally the successful candidate will be able to start in June.

Shortlisted candidates will be expected to undertake a technical assessment to demonstrate their skills in the identification of fauna.

Requirements

You’ll need to have:

  • previous experience in benthic faunal sample processing in a commercial laboratory
  • previous experience in identification of macrobenthic and epibenthic species
  • a degree in Marine Biology or a related subject
  • the ability to work to the pressures of a commercial laboratory
  • an enthusiastic attitude and willingness to learn.

ideally, you will also have:

  • previous experience of Particle Size Analysis
  • previous experience of survey work
