Overview

The Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) is an impartial scientific authority on UK and international nature conservation. For over 26 years we have provided robust evidence and trusted advice to enable governments in the UK to achieve their policy objectives.

JNCC is an executive non-departmental public body, sponsored jointly by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the Scottish Government, the Welsh Government and the Northern Ireland Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs.

The Chief Scientist and Depuity Chief Executive role is a new post within JNCC. It is a challenging but exciting role that will be influential in shaping the organisation’s future direction. You will be reporting directly to the Chief Executive and will provide corporate leadership as a member of the senior management team. You will lead JNCC’s science, evidence and advice functions, having overall staff and budget management responsibilities and manintaing a culture of high performance. You will also be an influential advocate for JNCC’s work, developing relationships at senior level within the environmental science and policy communities.

The postholder will have a proven track record in leading a major scientific or technical function and will ideally posses postgraduate academic qualifications within a relevant scientific discipline. You will be a natural leader, with enthusiasm and energy to motivate and inspire teams across the organisation. As a strategic thinker you will be able to deliver outcome-focused plans and be able to respond swiftly to changing priorities. You will be a confident communicator, able to engage successfully at a senior level with stakeholders.

Further information
The salary for this post is circa £75,000 per annum, with some scope for negotiation depending on skills and experience.

There is potential for the post-holder to earn an annual non-consolidated performance related bonus.
