Overview

The Glasgow office of Applied Ecology Ltd (AEL) is looking for a new team member to join the company in spring 2018. AEL is a small, friendly, specialist ecological consultancy which focuses on delivering high quality advice, underpinned by robust scientific principles and understanding. Our consultants are all talented naturalists for whom a love of the natural environment is part of their everyday life. We work hard, undertaking many prestigious projects, but our size means that we remain employee-focussed; all of our employees make a significant contribution to the success and direction of the business.

Our Glasgow team operates via an office in Hillington Park, but staff work primarily from their own homes. If you are looking for greater flexibility, creativity and influence in your ecological consultancy career, this may be the position for you.

Based on our upcoming order book, the Glasgow office currently has specific skills requirements for batsbotany and ECoW, and we would encourage graduate or senior level staff to apply if you can offer competency in any of these areas. We are not fixed on a specific level of entry – it is more important to us to find personnel with the right skills and mind set for our way of working.

For either level of entry, you would be expected to have a degree and/or a post-graduate qualification in a relevant discipline and to be at least an Associate member of CIEEM (for Graduate entry) or Full member (for Senior entry). You would be expected to be CIEEM Capable in a broad range of essential skills, such as Phase 1 Habitat Survey, Preliminary Ecological Appraisal, GIS, data analysis and report writing, as well as offering a specialism (CIEEM Accomplished competency) in at least one taxonomic group. This may or may not be related to the specific topic areas mentioned above. It is essential that you can work effectively on your own and manage your own time, as well as being a team player.

Due to the type and location of the work we undertake, a full driving licence and access to a car is needed and there will be a requirement for some anti-social working hours. You should also be physically fit and be comfortable with lone working, including in remote or upland environments.

Please see their website for full details.
