Overview

We are seeking someone to work as a committed and integral member of the team, to enable us to continue to deliver the highest standards of technical work and aid the expansion of the business.

The role will involve supporting the team of Ecologists on existing and new projects.  The successful candidate will work closely with experienced Ecologists and will progress to managing their own projects.

Main tasks will comprise:

Phase 1 Habitat Survey
Map and report preparation
Survey support and logistic planning and co-ordination of surveys
Completion of desktop studies, data searches and analysis of data
Data analysis (wintering / breeding birds, bat activity survey data and monitoring schemes)
Assistance with mitigation schemes (great crested newt, reptiles, water vole and bats, as required)
Contribution to tenders / fee proposals
Contribution to quality assurance such as proof reading
Liaison with clients and provision of clear guidance and
Liaison with and support to the Principal and Senior Ecologist / Ecologists

Qualifications / Experience
We would love to hear from you if you have:

Essential:

Bachelor’s Degree (or relevant qualification) in ecology or related subject
Organised with good interpersonal skills with an emphasis on team working
Plant identification skills and understanding of Phase 1 Habitat Survey
Experience of protected species surveys, particularly any of the following: bats, great crested newts, reptile, badger, otter and water vole
Good working knowledge of wildlife, survey techniques and EU and UK legislation
Good communication skills and the ability to write clear, concise reports
Experience of working within an ecological consultancy or similar field
Full and clean UK driving licence and
A flexible approach to working hours to accommodate seasonality and survey time constraints

Desired:

Graduate or Associate membership of the CIEEM
Experience of the preparation of avoidance measures, mitigation or compensation for schemes
The ability to design, plan and lead on a variety of ecological surveys (including Extended Phase 1 Habitat surveys and protected species surveys)
Knowledge and awareness of planning process and policy
Experience of Ecological Clerk of Works duties
Capability in use of QGIS would be advantageous; and
Demonstrable experience of successful ecology survey planning and project management
