Main Purpose of the Job

Pell Frischmann is seeking to appoint a Graduate Ecologist to join their Ecology team in the London office based on the Strand.

The role will be a mix of office-based reporting and review of existing studies carried out. Also, you will be on site conducting your own data collation and other field work too. As a result, you will be working on a range of projects and will be expected to travel and stay away at times overnight too, which would be covered by expenses.

Due to some of the locations it would also be necessary for you to have your own transport and business insurance too.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

You  will be responsible for a range of tasks incorporating the following elements:

  • Undertaking a range of bat surveys including use of thermal and infrared cameras and both handheld and automated detectors.
  • Ecological coordination and survey arrangements including survey logistics and access arrangements.
  • Monitoring site activities and liaising with the project team to ensure surveys are completed as scheduled and in line with project requirements.
  • Sound and video data analysis of data gathered during the surveys
  • Report input for the bat surveys undertaken
  • Occasional desk-based support for the wider ecology team involving preparation of reports and undertaking data searches.

 

 

What Qualifications, Experience & Skills are Essential or Preferred to be successful in the role?

Qualification
  • Under / postgraduate degree in Ecology, Environmental Management or a related discipline

 

  • A current CSCS card or equivalent.
  • Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM)
Experience  
  • Some experience surveying a range of UK habitats and protected species (incl. but not limited to bats, badger, otter, water vole etc.)
  • Previous experience of working within an engineering organisation
  • Relevant experience in a similar capacity as an Ecological Clerk of Works
Skills
  • Full UK driver’s licence.
 

  • Excellent communication skills, in particular an ability to convey ecological / environmental requirements to contractor teams
  • Good knowledge of relevant UK and EU wildlife legislation including conservation of protected species
  • Good knowledge of UK bats and their ecology
  • Proficient in bat sound analysis
  • Competent user of technology for ecological surveying
  • Sound knowledge of environmental constraints
  • Good knowledge of bat survey methods and health and safety considerations
