Job Summary

  • Utilizes basic scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems with limited scope.
  • Collects and enters data, and applies technical principles and theories.
  • Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Entry-level position; may not require previous experience.
  • Degree in science or related field required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Qualified to degree level in a relevant subject AND have previous experience in an aquatic ecology role.
  • A higher degree in Aquatic Ecology or related discipline would be an advantage as would previous commercial and/or regulatory experience.

Specific Skills Required:

  • Supporting the delivery of existing and new contracts for the collection and analysis of freshwater macroinvertebrate samples and other aquatic surveys, including fish, crayfish, macrophytes, riparian mammals, River Habitat Survey etc.;
  • Opportunities to assist with a wider range of terrestrial ecology surveys for the right candidate;
  • Working as part of the existing network of AECOM ecologists within the UK and Ireland;
  • Communicating effectively with their line manager, project managers, clients, project teams and other members of the ecology team, within projects and with clients by telephone, e-mail, letters and reports;
  • Compliance with internal business management procedures, including in relation to health and safety and technical quality of all advice and outputs; and
  • Building and maintaining both internal and external client relationships, including providing urgent ecological response and / or advice in person, by email or over the phone;
  • Collaborating with colleagues in the Environment & Ground Engineering and Power & Energy groups on multi-disciplinary projects;
  • Assisting with other administrative duties which add value to the management and development of the ecology team.

The role holder must have strong behavioral competencies with respect to client care, collaborative working, personal responsibility, decision making and team work.

Person Specification:

We are looking for someone who is self-reliant, thrives on challenges and is happy to collaborate with colleagues in other disciplines. Whilst there may also be opportunity to work from other offices on occasion as the AECOM ecology team operates as a single business at a UK and Ireland scale, the successful role holders will be expected to live locally or be prepared to relocate close to the office in which they are based.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Member of CIEEM or similar professional body; or eligible to qualify for this status;
  • Water Safety Training;
  • First Aid qualification;
  • Licensed to drive a vehicle in the UK.
