About the role

This is an excellent opportunity for high-calibre, motivated and commercially-minded scientists to join our growing fisheries team.

APEM is seeking to recruit enthusiastic individuals with a proven track record in a consultancy environment in a relevant field or the ability to adapt to a consultancy environment.  You will have specialist knowledge and skills to enable you to assist with the management and technical consultancy of projects in the areas of fisheries ecology or fisheries engineering.

APEM’s fisheries team is currently undertaking projects on the impacts of water abstraction, environmental monitoring and assessment of water company Drought Plans, infrastructure developments, WFD/heavily modified water body assessments, Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), fish entrainment/impingement assessments, hydropower assessment, fish passage and fish screening. An understanding of UK fisheries legislation and its application to monitoring and environmental assessments will be an advantage.

About you

You will be self-motivated and able to work independently as well as within project teams drawn from our regional offices. The ability to communicate effectively with clients in all sectors and a sense of pride in, and responsibility for your work are paramount.

We would anticipate candidates will have a minimum of an MSc in a relevant discipline and be able to demonstrate professional experience. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to work to tight deadlines.

Whether you are an applicant with academic, regulatory, consultancy or third sector experience you will need to demonstrate your ability to apply your skills in a commercial consultancy context through experience of managing projects and dealing with people effectively and professionally.

You will be primarily office-based, although site visits, client meetings and fieldwork are likely to be required, which may include overnight stays; therefore, a full driving licence and personal flexibility is essential.
