An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Wessex Fisheries, Biodiversity and Geomorphology Team (FBG).

We are working hard to create a better place and your expert knowledge of conservation and ecology with excellent communication skills can help us do this by proactively influencing everything the Environment Agency does.

This is a key role and we are looking for a combination of personal and professional skills. A charismatic approach providing professional advice to a mix of customers.

This post will support the work of our Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) teams enabling the delivery of their enhanced maintenance programme.
The team
We input to the planning and development control process to ensure development is sustainable and delivers outcomes for people and wildlife.

We deal daily with our internal and external customers, public, NGO’s, water companies, landowners, assessing ecological risks and collaboratively delivering ecological benefits for our own works and those in partnership with others.

We screen our Flood and Coastal Risk Management works to ensure compliance with environmental legislation and to seeking environmental enhancements where possible.
Experience/skills required
You’ll be qualified to at least degree standard (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, have experience working in the field of nature conservation and of applying that experience to influence decision-makers, operators and partners. You will possess a thorough understanding of the ecological requirements of aquatic and wetland habitats and species and nature conservation management. River restoration awareness, a good working knowledge of environmental legislation, Government policy and strategy are essential.

The role can be based at either our Bridgwater or Blandford Forum offices (please indicate location preference)with some site visits in the field. The post requires a full UK driving licence.

The post is as a fixed term contract/assignment for 18 months and will support the delivery of the enhanced FCRM maintenance programme.
