Ecologist / Consultant Ecologist (Bats)

Salary £18 – £25k dependent on experience

EMEC Ecology is a small and friendly consultancy with a wildlife-focused approach whose profits are donated annually to our parent organisation, Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust.  We are now seeking a qualified and experienced Ecologist / Consultant Ecologist to join our busy and expanding consultancy team, undertaking a variety of bat work alongside our other licensed bat workers, as well as a range of activity across the ecological services we offer.

EMEC Ecology’s work involves a wide range of projects from small-scale bat surveys of barns and churches through to preparation of management plans for nature reserves and research projects (such as nightjar radio-tracking and badger bait-marking).  We offer excellent training opportunities and experience of working with a broad range of habitats and species groups.  Our approach means that staff see projects through from commencement to completion, involving tendering, surveying, reporting and client liaison.

We are seeking:

  • A competent bat surveyor (Natural England class survey licence holder or close to obtaining licence);
  • At least two years of relevant consultancy experience, including writing technical reports;
  • A good working knowledge of current legislation, policy and industry best practice;
  • Excellent communication, project management and organisational skills;
  • Experience in writing Natural England EPS applications, surveying for other protected species and conducting Phase-1 habitat surveys would also be desirable, and membership of CIEEM would be advantageous.
