Overview

Ecosulis has a fantastic opportunity for a Principal/Senior Ecologist to lead and manage a team of ecologists and oversee a wide variety of projects. This role will involve planning, managing, and providing input to our diverse range of habitat creation and restoration projects and undertake surveys for wide range of sectors and clients.

You will have a sound understanding of current planning guidance and UK and European wildlife /environmental legislation and experienced in undertaking technical reviews and preparation of development control documents.

Candidates will be selected according to their experience and attitude towards development, planning and conservation. You will be required to project manage a range of various jobs, undertaking ecological surveys, and informing clients of design for planning constraints & opportunities. The job will require travelling to various sites and undertake surveys as and when is required.

Responsibilities:

Preparation of fee quotes and tenders
Supporting, leading, and managing staff / teams onsite
Leading & managing ecology projects (including appraisals and ECIA’s)
Maintaining and developing client relationships
Leading protected species surveys and mitigation projects
Introducing innovation and practices into the business
Compilation of risk assessments and ecological method statements for specific tasks
Leading site walkovers / surveys
Implement ecology related strategic documents such as management plans and minimum requirements.
For all works – always ensure compliance with European and UK Environmental and wildlife laws
Previous skills & experience:

UK protected and invasive species.
Proven experience within a professional ecological consultancy.
Experience of management of complex ecological issues within a project context.
Been named on a mitigation licence previously on ecological projects.
Detailed knowledge of key environmental/ecological legislation
Biodiversity action planning
Habitat creation techniques
Ecological management plans
Habitat management theory and practice
UK species identification and taxonomy
Qualifications:

Degree in ecology or related field
Full membership of CIEEM
Chartered status or working towards
Holding relevant licences i.e., GCN and/or bat licence is essential.
CSCS Card
SSSTS/SMSTS – desirable
Full UK driving licence and use of own vehicle is essential.

Location – North Birmingham

Start date: June/July 2021

Salary: Negotiable depending on experience
