Salary Range:  Starting salary – £50,000

Location: TBC

Summary:  An experienced professional is required, familiar with all aspects of nature conservation, to help consolidate an existing consultancy in the market. The key tasks will include developing the consultancy to comprise a team of field consultants, building upon an existing work portfolio of clients and contracts. You must understand the current market, how it can be developed in the ecological consultancy field and the mechanisms involved in a variety of procurement fields and have an ability to communicate effectively with other organisations such as present & future clients, local authorities and SNCO. You will be supported throughout the consultancy development by Group Directors with an aim to eventually join the Director team.

Description

Our Group of Companies are a leading player in environmental projects throughout the UK, Europe and beyond. Our work involves national infrastructure and development projects which have an ever-increasing involvement with Ecology. As part of our corporate development we are seeking to further  develop an existing ecological consultancy, which has a modicum of existing contract work, using this as a platform from which to expand.

Requirements:

You must be highly qualified, with experience over a number of years. In particular:

o  A degree in Ecology, Zoology, Botany, Biology, Environmental Science (with a strong ecology focus) or similar, preferably Honours or better
o  Post-graduate qualifications are desirable.
o  Full membership of CIEEM; Chartered status (or eligibility for this)
o  Some publishing history in Ecologically related topic would be advantageous

You should possess a strong technical acumen:

o  Excellent botanical skills with the capability of undertaking and overseeing at least Phase 1 habitat & NVC surveys in a variety of habitats
o  At least one EPS survey licence (e.g. bats, dormouse, GCN, white-clawed crayfish) and EPS Mitigation derogation licence experience both with licence application and implementation
o  Excellent understanding of UK & EU wildlife legislation and UK planning policy, and knowledge of the railway and highways environment with respect to ecological consultancy

Your office skills must be excellent:

o  Strong technical reporting, including PEA, HRA, EcIA and EIA experience. Please provide some recent examples (within the last 3 years). Experienced in review of technical reports required.
o  IT literacy particularly MS Office packages and server management.

Project and team management experience across multiple projects in a consultancy
setting;

o  excellent organisational skills and the ability to work with third parties and motivate colleagues
o  enthusiastic, reliable and hardworking, with good interpersonal and team building skills
o  Strong experience of safe working practices related to ecological fieldwork

A full UK driving licence and the understanding of the need to travel widely including spending time away from home, especially in support of surveys and mitigation projects.
