Are you an experienced ecology professional looking to make a significant impact on major projects? Waterman Infrastructure & Environment is currently seeking an Ecology Consultant to join our thriving team in Leeds!
Our office, located just a short walk from Leeds railway station, is ideally positioned to support some of the most innovative and prestigious projects in the region. Our team is involved in a diverse range of schemes, from cutting-edge waste and recycling initiatives like Edmonton EcoPark to world-class industrial and manufacturing projects such as Siemens Hull and SeAH Teesside. In Leeds, we are committed to developing sustainable and ecologically responsible solutions for our clients, providing ecological expertise on projects that make a real difference.
As an Ecology Consultant in Leeds, you’ll play an important role in delivering high-quality ecological assessments and surveys across a wide variety of projects, including infrastructure developments, waste management schemes, and residential projects. You’ll work closely with our clients and other technical specialists to ensure that ecological considerations are at the forefront of every project, from planning and due diligence through to post-planning assessments and mitigation.
Key responsibilities:
• Conducting ecological surveys, including protected species surveys, for various projects.
• Writing detailed technical reports such as Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments, and mitigation strategies.
• Contributing to environmental management plans and ensuring that all work is compliant with environmental regulations and planning requirements.
• Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to integrate ecological considerations into larger project objectives.
• Communicating with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory authorities to support project delivery.
About you: To be successful in this role, you will need:
• A degree in Ecology or a related field.
• Full membership of CIEEM (or equivalent).
• Some years of experience in ecological consultancy, with knowledge of the EIA process and protected species licensing.
• Strong experience with Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), and other ecological surveys.
• Good understanding of UK ecological legislation, planning processes, and environmental policy.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work effectively with clients and stakeholders.
