As Ecology Assistant, your role will be to support the Head of Environment & Sustainability, focussing on delivering a biodiverse residential nature reserve. You will work to promote biodiversity in the Estate, with good knowledge of the benefits that building with nature can bring to both wildlife and people. You will also work across the wider Estate assisting on habitat management and creation projects including SSSIs and wetland complexes. You will engage people with the natural world through a series of interesting, interactive, and informative Nature Events.
Location Lower Mill Estate – Cirencester
Reporting to Head of Ecology & Sustainability
Salary £20k to £24k pro rata, dependent on experience
Hours 3 days a week including some weekends

Key Responsibilities:

  • Regular monitoring of wildlife across the Estate with a focus on ornithology and bats.
  • Assisting with surveys for European Protected Species incl. (but not restricted to) water vole; badger; great crested newt
  • Working in a team to carry out habitat management and new habitat creation projects to benefit biodiversity.
  • Monitoring and management of invasive species (e.g. Himalayan balsam)
  • Creating and running a varied series of Nature Events for homeowners and guests, encouraging people of all ages and backgrounds to connect with nature and to get outdoors.
  • Support in the writing and implementation of environmental management plans
  • Leading on the collation of ecological data and the updating of records
  • Assisting with planning and resourcing of ecological surveys and species identification.
  • Helping to create developments that are nature-inclusive and which follow Building with Nature Standards.
