Overview

About us

Torfaen County Borough Council is a unitary authority based in south east Wales. Every day of the year, Torfaen delivers hundreds of services to the borough’s 91,000 residents from maintaining roads and empyting bins to supporting carers and educating young people. In May 2011 the council launched Corporate Plan 2 – a strategy that will guide its direction of travel for the next five years. The plan focuses on providing support for our most vulnerable citizens and communities. The priorities are: Supporting families and children living in poverty to get through the recession Preventing Torfaen residents coming homeless Safeguarding children, especially those with additional (special) educational needs and supporting positive attitudes towards education Protecting the most vulnerable adults and supporting those with disabilities and other long term conditions Targeting support to deprived communities and families suffering from crime and antisocial behaviour Using resources wisely to include maintaining the highway infrastructure and reducing energy consumption and waste Supporting initiatives which generate employment and training for work opportunities.
About the role

Torfaen County Borough Council is looking to appoint a talented and energetic ecologist to help support corporate understanding of, and encourage compliance with the Council’s Biodiversity and Ecosystem Resilience Plan. The successful candidate will help embed Environment (Wales) Act 2016 duties into wider Council services, advising on planning applications and supporting the delivery of an exciting range of practical projects with community stakeholders, and conducting species and habitat surveys. This is a unique opportunity for the right individual to further their experience as a local authority ecologist, at an exciting time when biodiversity protection and enhancement not only has a high profile, but is underpinned by robust legislation.
