The Environment Team provides specialist support to the South West Services Contract, in particular the completion of ecological surveys, ecological impact assessment of projects, on site supervision, Environmental feasibility studies and scheme designs.

As Ecologist you will be responsible for assisting the Senior Environment & Sustainability Manager and Environmental Design Team Lead to coordinate and advise on all ecological and sustainability issues across the South West DSC, with a particular focus on the northern region. The role will be a point of contact for ecological issues and will assist in implementing the sustainability strategy.

You will conduct ecological surveys and contribute to the environmental impact assessment of works proposals, including the recommendation, design and implementation of appropriate mitigation. Provide ecological advice, support and watching briefs to schemes under construction, promoting environmental principles and best practice throughout the commission.

The role will see you assisting with the supervision, inspection and site approval of relevant sub-contractor works. Producing Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs) if required and supporting with the delivery of HE BAP actions, targets and reporting. You will provide a focal point for the Client and DSC Teams on ecological and environmental matters, while working with statutory bodies, members of the public and local authorities

What do we need from you? 
Do you have what it takes to join Kier as an Ecologist? We’re on the lookout for someone who has an Environmental/Sustainability degree (or equivalent), who is ideally a member of an environmental/sustainability institute (IEMA), and ideally working towards Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv). 
In terms of your experience and knowledge, we’re asking that you have experience in ecological surveys including Extended Phase 1 habitat surveys and protected species surveys, good understanding of Environmental Impact Assessment experience, preferably with use of the Highways Agency guidance document ‘Design Manual for Roads & Bridges’ (DMRB). 

You will need to have previous experience of flora and fauna species, and associated legislation. Along with an understating and experience with the HA BAP, UK BAP and local BAPs and possession of protected species licenses (bat and dormouse).
