Overview

Simlaw Ecology is growing, and we are looking for an experienced Ecologist to join the team.

The Role

The purpose of the role will be to manage protected habitats and species projects from start to finish, including liaison with clients, planning and delivering field surveys and production of ecological reports and EPS licence applications.

You will work on a variety of projects across the industry, from protected species surveys for householder applications, ecological impact assessments for homebuilder developments and field surveys for major infrastructure projects.

What you get

The position will be full time and permanent, with a professional review following six months in the role.

This is an ideal position for an ecologist in their stride, who is seeking the opportunity to develop their specialisms within the context of a small company. The candidate would ideally have one or more of the following survey licenses: great crested newt, hazel dormouse, rare reptile and/or barn owl; and, will have experience producing EPS Mitigation licenses for one or more of those species/groups.

The role will enable you to train and manage newer members of staff and to develop your consultancy skills with our diverse client base.

You will receive a generous training budget and TOIL to cover any overtime you work during the busy summer months, in addition to an annual bonus. You will also be provided with our consultancy pack including a designated work iPhone, iPad, Echo Meter Touch 2 Pro and other survey equipment.

The Candidate

The position will be remote and field-based, with no central office to commute to; however, we ask that candidates are based local to our range in Surrey, north Sussex, west Kent or south London; or, be willing to relocate to the area in order to avoid long commutes to and from our surveys.

The successful candidate will have a degree or higher in the Natural Sciences (e.g. Biology, Conservation, Biodiversity, or similar), and at least three years industry experience in full time work. We are a small but growing team, so applicants must be well organised, forward thinking and confident; and, have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

A full driving licence and access to a car is essential.

Candidates that are familiar with working in the Mac OS ecosystem, or are keen to learn, will be favoured. Proficiency with the basic range of Microsoft programs is required, and adaptability to more advanced IT skills, such as Kaleidoscope bat sound analysis software and Photoshop image editing is highly desirable.

Pay will be dependent on experience.

Diversity Statement

We are an equal opportunities employer and gladly welcome applications from all suitably qualified candidates, regardless of their gender, race, religion, sex or sexual orientation. Applicants will be evaluated based on objective criteria regarding their experience and their ability to perform in the role.
