Overview

Work as a Principal Ecologist within a Team/Business Unit. Responsible for resource planning and management, financial and technical input to proposals and projects management of Delta-Simons resources (office or site based) and sub-contractors, and financial performance. Manage, coach and mentor staff where line management responsibility has been allocated and in the delivery of projects. Based in Lincoln or Leeds offices.

Desirable skills:

  • A minimum of 6 years’ post-graduate experience in fulfilling similar functions or in a similar consultancy role.
  • Strong project, budget control and resource management skills.
  • Strong report writing and reviewing skills, with experience of writing ecology chapters to support Environmental Statements.
  • Experience of liaison with statutory consultees, sub-consultants, design teams, Local Planning Authorities and client facing.
  • Having a demonstrable knowledge of all stages of development from the initial feasibility stage through to the planning application stage and beyond.
  • Demonstrable track record of providing commercial focused project leadership on multi-disciplinary projects;.Good inter-personal communication skills as team leadership and mentoring will be paramount to the role.

Responsibilities include:

  • To provide line management to a Team where such responsibility has been allocated, to include completion of appraisals, training programs, holiday and sickness reporting and to address, with assistance, any issues.
  • To effectively communicate and manage a delivery team to achieve a project brief through provision of efficient and professional services.
  • With the minimal support of an appropriate person at Director Grade provide commercially sound solutions to technical problems and communicate outcomes in an effective and balanced way.
  • With the limited support of a Business Unit Manager/ Technical Director, or in isolation, to provide solutions to technical problems and to write technical reports.
  • To act in the capacity of report signatory and to recognise and understand the responsibilities that this entails.
  • To work within and be a champion for, the company health, safety and environmental policy.
  • Provide proactive input to Company initiatives.
  • Identify resource requirements and gaps in skills and knowledge.
  • Support in recruitment process.
  • To demonstrate an understanding of and comply with legislation, Company policies and procedures and work within agreed resources.
  • Contribute to the achievement of Company objectives through positive working relationships with colleagues throughout the Company, with clients and with suppliers.
  • To promote the Company and all of its services to others.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant first degree
  • A full member of CIEEM
  • Holds two or more specialist licences (newts, bats etc.)
