EMEC Ecology is a small and friendly consultancy with a wildlife-focused approach whose profits are donated annually to our parent organisation, Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust.  We are now seeking a qualified and experienced Consultant Ecologist to join our busy and expanding consultancy team, undertaking a variety of bat work alongside our other licensed bat workers, as well as a range of activity across the ecological services we offer.

EMEC Ecology’s work involves a wide range of projects from small-scale bat surveys of barns and churches through to preparation of management plans for nature reserves and research projects (such as nightjar radio-tracking and badger bait-marking).  We offer excellent training opportunities and experience of working with a broad range of habitats and species groups.  Our approach means that staff see projects through from commencement to completion, involving tendering, surveying, reporting and client liaison.

We are seeking:

  • A competent bat surveyor (Natural England Class 2 survey licence holder);
  • At least three years of relevant consultancy experience, to include extensive experience in conducting bat surveys, bat mitigation design and writing technical reports;
  • Experience in being the Named Ecologist on Natural England EPS bat mitigation licence applications (including preparing applications, undertaking site supervisions, assessing mitigation measures and conducting post-works monitoring);
  • A good working knowledge of current legislation, policy and industry best practice;
  • Excellent communication, project management and organisational skills;
  • Experience in surveying for other protected species and conducting Phase-1 habitat surveys would also be desirable, and membership of CIEEM would be advantageous.

We are offering:

  • A competitive salary with bonus, pension scheme and other benefits;
  • An opportunity to take responsibility in a small consultancy;
  • A training and professional development scheme;
  • Work with a consultancy committed to nature conservation;
  • A post based in the City of Nottingham with project work throughout the East Midlands and across the UK.

A full driving licence is required (pool cars are provided for surveys) and anti-social working hours will be necessary during the summer season, including evenings / early mornings and occasional overnight stays.

If you are interested in this role we would love to hear from you.  Please send a CV and covering letter to sarahbutler@emec-ecology.co.uk or contact Steve Ralph or Sarah Butler on 0115 964 4828 for an informal chat. Closing date for applications is 5pm Monday 20th August 2018 and interviews will be held in Nottingham on Thursday 30th August 2018.
