Overview

We are looking for ambitious and passionate consultant ecologists to work within the vibrant and forward-thinking Birmingham ecology team. This is a fantastic opportunity to further your career within an established and successful consultancy that has welfare and wellbeing as core values.

While we enjoy the benefits and security of a large corporation, we have a small Grade II listed ecology office in the heart of Birmingham and the team has the feeling of a close-knit ecology consultancy. We have mentors who provide support at a personal level and guide the development of skills and experience. There is a programme of internal training courses and generous individual budgets where we can’t provide specialist training in-house. We promote a healthy work-life balance by offering flexible working hours to suit your commitments, as well as free weekly Pilates classes and an organic DIY fresh juice bar; we also have fun social team activities throughout the year.

You will have a wide range of experience in field survey techniques and some experience of reporting and managing or co-ordinating small projects. You will have made good progress towards gaining protected species licences, and may have a species specialism (such as birds, barn owl or badgers). You may have other transferable skills or interests which will add value, such as knowledge of GIS, coding, app development or working with new technologies. You will enjoy working with other ecologists and developing new skills. You’ll be reliable, hard-working, organised and pro-active, in order to help you manage a busy workload and achieve your professional goals. The balance between field and office work can be tailored to suit your career aspirations and preference as we have a wide range of roles and projects.

Our UK Ecology Team comprises over 160 ecologists based across the UK and covers all terrestrial, freshwater and marine habitats. We provide our clients with the full range of ecological services including specialist habitat and species surveys, impact assessment, advice on biodiversity mitigation, offsetting and enhancement, and management planning for biodiversity.

With AECOM, you can go as far as your ability and desire will take you. It’s about your interests and passions. It’s about the experiences you bring with you, and, it’s about your personal goals and aspirations. We provide you with the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse workforce of highly talented professionals on both regional and national projects that impact our world for the better – and to gain relevant experience which will be of significant benefit to you in your future career.
