Overview

Are you passionate about wildlife conservation? We are looking for a confident, pro-active individual to join our Reserves Team.

You will be one of three full-time Reserves Officers, a part-time Volunteer Team Officer and a volunteer Conservation Assistant responsible for the management of more than 70 nature reserves covering nearly 1200 hectares of unimproved grassland, ancient woodlands, heathlands and wetlands in Worcestershire. The nature reserves are a vital part of our contribution to the delivery of Living Landscapes, a landscape-based approach to rebuilding biodiversity. The Central Nature Reserves total 24 reserves covering about 415 hectares.

You must have experience of land management, especially grassland, woodland and forestry, recruiting and working with volunteers and contractors and a good understanding of ecology and natural history. As this role also involves liaising with members of the public and a variety of bodies such as statutory agencies and non-governmental environmental organisations, you will need good communication skills. IT skills including experience of GIS and CMSi are also important for use in preparing management plans and reports. Knowledge of H&S legislation is required.

Applicants must have a minimum of four years relevant experience demonstrating technical and practical competencies and budget management. You will be able to demonstrate a positive attitude to team working and in working effectively to deadlines. It is desirable that you have a degree or equivalent qualification. A full driving licence is essential.

Worcestershire Wildlife Trust is part of the national network of 47 Wildlife Trusts and plays a key role in conserving and enhancing the wildlife of Worcestershire. The Trust has over 26 staff and is now seeking a Conservation Officer to complete our Conservation Team.
