Overview

CH2M is currently looking for an Ecologist to work in our offices in Warrington.

Key purposes of the role are to:

• Undertake ecological surveys and desk and field appraisals and impact assessments
• Provide Ecological / Environmental Clerk of Works services at construction sites.
• Contribute to the development of sustainable engineering designs.
Water enterprise in the north-west requires environmental technical support in the delivery of appraisals, designs and construction of water sector schemes.

This includes flood and coastal risk management schemes (for the Environment Agency and other authorities under WEM) and water industry schemes (under the United Utilities framework, C2V+ joint venture which runs until 2020 with potential to extend a further 7 years).

C2V+, a CH2M and VolkerStevin joint venture, is one of the four Construction Delivery Partners (CDP) for AMP6. The.The AMP6 contract is a design and construct framework for the next capital investment period, from 2015 to 2020 and covers the full spectrum of works for both water and waste water across the North West England geographic area for which United Utilities is responsible. The framework comprises multidisciplinary activities including design, project management, construction, testing, commissioning and maintenance of water & wastewater treatment works, pipelines, pumping stations, reservoirs and mechanical and electrical installations.

The successful candidate should expect to be fully occupied on projects related to WEM and United Utilities. If necessary, some flexibility will be expected to provide support to other teams in the north of England. However, if the United Utilities framework provides the anticipated workload this should not be necessary. Having a member of the environment team who can maintain very regular contact with the UU delivery team is likely to result in more work being leveraged.

Your key responsibilities in your role as Ecologist, but not limited to:

• Ecological surveys: Phase 1 and further specialist surveys
• Ecological desk appraisal.
• Ecological impact assessment.
• Reporting of the above.
• Leading or supporting ecological licensing and mitigation activities, consultation and consenting.
• Providing design guidance related to ecological mitigation and improvement.
• Providing construction guidance in relation to ecological mitigation and improvements.
• Providing construction guidance in relation to other environmental mitigation.
• Supporting proposals through costing of ecological survey and appraisal work.

The minimum qualifications for this position are:
To be successful in your job you must have:

• BSc or MSc in an ecological science.
• Proven professional experience in ecological survey, appraisal and assessment.
• Relevant professional experience as an Ecological / Environmental Clerk of Works (must have experience of working on construction sites).
• Evidence of continuing professional development in ecology with or working towards chartership (CIEEM or equivalent).

Given the nature of your work you should be able to travel (driving licence essential) and undertake field work safely.

You are a self-motivated individual and you are able to work unsupervised on occasions within a team environment .
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
Desirable skills for this role:

• Specific ecological skills in one or more of the following groups: botany, aquatic species, mammals, herpetofauna, birds.
• Experience in wetland and/or river and/or catchment management.
• Experience in supporting (and/or delivering) Environmental Impact Assessments.
