Full time position for a senior ecologist/consultant ecologist

Competitive salary offered commensurate with experience.

The role is diverse, involving all aspects of ecological consultancy work, and will  focused on undertaking phase one and protected species surveys, preparing ecological impact assessments and appraisals, obtaining European Protected Species licences particularly for great crested newts and bats, and managing relocation and other mitigation schemes, habitat management. Work will require travel to sites mainly in  southern/eastern England and occasionally further afield.

Candidate profile:

We seek an enthusiastic  individual as a  senior ecologist , or experienced consultant ecologist ready to take the next step in their career.

Essential:

– bachelor degree in ecology or related discipline

– demonstrable experience in an ecological consultancy

– strong experience in extended phase one habitat surveys & for  herpetofauna

– Natural England survey licence for great crested newt

-good understanding of legislation and planning framework in relation to ecology

– experience of designing mitigation schemes and habitat management

-excellent report writing skills and proficient in use of Microsoft Office software

– flexible and able to work under pressure to meet deadlines for multiple projects

– enthusiastic with good communication skills

– happy working alone and in a team

– comfortable working in remote field locations, and willing to work long and often anti-social hours when necessary during the survey season

– hold a full valid driving licence

– CAD mapping skills

Desirable:

– qualified to higher  level degree in ecology or related discipline

– Full member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental  Management (MCIEEM) or CMLI)

– experience of applying for bat and great crested newt mitigation licences

– experience in other protected species surveys such as bats, water vole, badger

– experience of Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) and  BREEAM

– access to/own vehicle
