Overview

Primary Purpose:
Provide environmental support through the development or performance of field studies, environmental assessments and completion of permit/license applications for domestic or international projects.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
• providing ecological support on a wide range of projects including fluvial and coastal flood risk management, renewables, water utility and energy projects;
• undertaking Ecological Impact Assessments (including PEAs and EcIA) and surveys – assisting at all stages of the project, including SEA, feasibility, screening/scoping, reporting, supervision of mitigation and monitoring;
• monitoring and managing budgets and programmes;
• managing sub-contractors;
• mentoring more junior members of staff; and
• liaising with our ecological community of practice, project teams, clients, stakeholders and the public as required.

The candidate needs to have experience of applying UK and EU ecological legislation including licence applications, a range of ecological impact assessment and protected species surveys; with at least one survey/class licence. Excellent written and oral communication.
The B&V Environmental Services team comprise a range of disciplines including EIA co-ordinators and technical specialists in areas such as landscape, ecology, due diligence, maritime and geomorphology. The successful graduate will work within the B&V Environmental Services team but will also work with wider design and construction teams and other specialists such as geotechnical, contaminated land, maritime, GIS and renewables engineers.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education & training:
BSc in Ecology or Environmental Science with high component of ecology.

Academic & profess’l qualif’ns:
Full member of CIEEM.

Background & experience: Consultancy background with good experience of EcIA, and undertaking habitat and wide range of protected species surveys. Design and supervision of ecological mitigation. Protected species licence applications. Habitats Regulations Assessment. Licence holder for protected species surveys.

Knowledge base:
Ecological legislation, standard survey techniques and mitigation used for main UK protected, notable and invasive species.

Skills:
Use of GIS for field recording.

Personal attributes:
Needs to be keen to further develop a wide range of ecological survey skills/licences and produce high quality reports to industry standards.

Preferred Job Qualifications:
MSc in Ecology or with other high component of Ecology
CEnv. Member of EECoW. CSCS card holder.
Additional qualification in plant ID. Bat licence or working towards and/or other survey licences: dormice, crayfish, GCN. Class 2 mitigation licences such as badger, GCN, water voles
Principles of wider EIA and Town and Country Planning. Habitat creation/management.
