We are looking for a Biodiversity Research Officer to join our team on a fixed term contract until 31/03/23, on a full-time basis working 36 hours per week. This role may be extended, but this is dependant on funding.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic ecologist to join The Royal Parks’ Help Nature Thrive (HNT) Team, a People’s Postcode Lottery funded project.

You will have the chance to contribute to the resilience and perpetuity of our parks as you help deliver an ambitious programme of biodiversity survey and research in the heart of London.

The Role

As a Help Nature Thrive Biodiversity Research Officer, you will plan, schedule and co-ordinate the Biodiversity Research Programme with the HNT Project Manager and TRP Biodiversity Manager.

Specifically, you will create a Green Infrastructure Strategy,a Natural Capital Account (including carbon capture) and help set targets for biodiversity net gain. You will work with researchers and experts in the field to develop bespoke approaches to realise the value of our urban greenspace.

Undertaking surveys within the parks, you will work with volunteers, citizen scientists,  consultants and contractors to deliver the Biodiversity Research Programme so that we know more about our key and characteristic species and habitats

Additionally, you will

  • Support the Help Nature Thrive Team and the Volunteer Team in volunteer recruitment and management
  • Promote the Biodiversity Research Programme to park visitors and local communities
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress of the Biodiversity Research Programme

About You

To be considered a Help Nature Thrive Biodiversity Research Officer, you will need:

  • Experience of ecological land management principles and conservation of historic park landscapes
  • Experience of presenting biodiversity data in reports and mapping
  • Experience of undertaking surveys for at least one species group
  • Demonstrable experience of using statistical packages to analyse biodiversity data
  • Sound knowledge of the principles and practice of biological and environmental recording
  • Excellent advocacy, communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • A full, valid, driving licence

It would be beneficial to have experience of completing habitat condition assessments.

Ideally, you will have experience of using a biological records database and GIS (Geographical Information System).
