Overview

In acknowledgement of its uniquely diverse ecological landscape, which boasts National, European and Internationally designated habitats and protected species, Stroud District Council has created a new role of Biodiversity Officer.

The District’s landscape is as diverse as its ecological heritage, with the tidal estuary of the River Severn to the east and the rolling hills of the Cotswolds AONB to the west. Communications are very good, with Bristol, Cheltenham and Gloucester all within 45 minutes and a direct mainline rail service to London.

The Council is seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic and experienced qualified ecologist to join the planning service to help safeguard and enhance the rich biodiversity interests of the district.

You will have a good knowledge of the planning system and provide expert advice to colleagues, applicants and the general public on a wide range of planning applications and pre-application enquires, ensuring the Council meets its statutory requirements. You will also aid the appeals team on biodiversity issues.

In return, the Council offers an excellent working environment in an historic listed mill building with free car parking and staff restaurant. The Council is committed to promoting a healthy work/life balance for its staff and offers flexible working, a contributory pension scheme, sophisticated IT systems, access to a pool car, training opportunities and a culture of friendly, supportive management.
