Swansea Council is seeking to recruit a qualified and experienced Biodiversity Officer to support the integration of Biodiversity and the Sustainable Management of Natural Resources across all Council Services.

This will include initiating, coordinating and promoting the design, delivery and monitoring of a range of biodiversity plans and projects in order to meet the Council’s statutory (Section 6) biodiversity duties under the provisions of the Environment (Wales) Act and the Resilient Wales Goal of the Well-Being of Future Generations Act.  Work will involve the provision of advice, training and technical support for staff and elected members, responsibility for the Councils’ Biodiversity Duty Action Plan and Corporate Biodiversity objective actions, engaging with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, as well as building capacity and investigating possible sources of funding for biodiversity, green infrastructure and climate change initiatives.

Candidates should have a relevant degree and preferably CIEEM membership. A sound knowledge of ecology / biodiversity /natural resource management is required, as is a clear understanding of relevant legislation and policies. Experience of project management, stakeholder engagement and grant funding also required. Excellent communication skills and an ability to deliver high quality and succinct technical reports are essential. The successful candidate will be diligent, professional and enthusiastic. 

This is a permanent part time (2.5 days/week) role with the possibility of additional hours.
