Overview
We are looking to recruit a principal ecologist to join our growing team in Stroud. This is an exciting opportunity to join a young, dynamic and fun team in a rapidly growing company.
The position is permanent and full-time. It primarily involves the management of our work on large infrastructure projects, but with an opportunity to lead on many of our other projects, providing ecological survey and advice to a range of clients. The job will be mainly office based but with opportunities to contribute to fieldwork when necessary.
Key responsibilities will be:
- Managing our work on national infrastructure projects
- Liaising with clients, and our network of ecologist contractors.
- Working to constantly drive up our quality standards, from fieldwork and data to reports produced by our ecologists.
- Managing, training and mentoring junior ecologists
- Preparing fee proposals
- Managing projects, carrying out fieldwork and writing reports.
The successful candidate will:
- Be a Full member of the CIEEM, or a Chartered Ecologist.
- Have a proven track record in ecological consultancy such that they can foster strong relationships with our clients, and quality assure the fieldwork and written work carried out by our ecologists
- Have broad experience of survey work across a range of habitats and taxa.
- Be an experienced project manager
- Be a strong communicator
- Have an ability to work under pressure and able to quickly adapt to changing requirements
- Be competent in common software packages such as MS office, QGIS or similar
- Have excellent report writing skills
- Have attention to detail
- Have a full UK driving licence.
- Desirable:
- Experience of mentoring and management of junior staff
- Commercially aware and a passion to help grow the company
- Ideally at least one protected species licence
- Ideally at least one taxa specific competency at “accomplished” level according to the CIEEM
