Associate Director Ecology (Gloucestershire)

We have an exciting opportunity for a commercially-aware, senior-level ecologist to join our team in a key leadership role. You will of course have significant ecological expertise in survey, mitigation, EIA and environmental management but would also be interested in business development and promotions.  In this wide-ranging role, and working closely with the MD, you will:

• Manage the company on a day-to-day basis and make major contributions to strategy, sales, delivery, business organisation and promotions.
• Actively secure sales and business growth for the company, inclusive of building effective and long lasting relationships with our clients.
• Manage the delivery of the company’s consultancy projects to high professional standards, inclusive of managing and developing our team of ecologists and quality- assuring our consultancy outputs.
• Undertake your own consultancy projects according to needs, inclusive of field and desk-based work.
• Develop and promote the profile of the company, expanding our range of services and client base, and play a key role in the marketing of the business.

You must be confident, articulate, professional, hard working and flexible, with a ‘can-do’ attitude. Good communication skills are vital, as is a willingness to work unsociable hours when necessary and travel throughout the UK. A full UK driving licence and own car are essential.

Other essential attributes include:

• Relevant higher qualifications.
• Strategic ability and commercial awareness.
• Strong communication and presentational skills.
• 5+ years of relevant experience with technical excellence in one or more relevant disciplines in terrestrial ecology.
• Proven expertise in the writing of technical reports.
• Good knowledge of environmental policy, planning and best practice.
• Networking skills and (ideally) membership of relevant professional institutes.

Desirable attributes include previous experience of successful: business development and line management; sales and marketing; and, the use of web sites and social media as promotional tools.  It would be desirable to have held multiple protected species licences (survey and/or development) and to have expertise in data management / analysis and IT also.
