What we need

An aquatic ecologist with relevant industry experience in either the public or private sector, all levels considered. Please get in touch if you’re interested in joining the Five Rivers family and meet the requirements set out.

About you

  • Positive, enthusiastic with excellent communication skills to ensure an effective collaborative approach for delivery of our projects.
  • Organised with the ability to prioritise workload and potentially that of others.
  • Membership to CIEEM or other professional body – desirable

Experience

  • Design and delivery of surveys to recognised industry standards for assessment of freshwater ecosystems (e.g. LEAFPACS2).
  • Competent taxonomist, with accreditations (where applicable).
  • Data analysis, indices calculation and interpretation of freshwater biological datasets.
  • Producing or contributing to technical reports including ecological assessments (e.g. WFD compliance assessment, HRA)
  • Project management of monitoring programmes.
  • Survey leadership, overseeing quality and health & safety of field teams
  • Line management – desirable

Knowledge

  • Sound knowledge of UK and European water-based legislation and its application.
  • Technical knowledge of freshwater ecosystems and their function.
  • Detailed understanding of the pressures that our freshwater ecosystems face and how to protect them in our ever-changing world.
  • Familiar with hydromorphic processes and attributes of waterbodies, and the impact of water resource management

Salary range £26,000-£40,000 depending on experience.
