Overview

We are looking to grow our capability in a number of areas and this is a key opportunity to help build capacity in our ecology team.
We are looking for ecologists from range of backgrounds, with at least two years’ experience. The successful candidates will have excellent understanding of UK wildlife legislation and relevant planning policy, and will have responsibility for surveying and, project management, client liaison, licence applications, report reviewing/approving, quality control and overseeing mitigation.

The candidate will be responsible for their own work and technical checking of others’ work. Regular contact and liaison with both internal and external clients and regulatory authorities will also be a requirement of the role.

Skills and Experience

Candidates need to be able to demonstrate relevant practical experience and:

A degree in Ecology, Biology, Zoology, Botany, Environmental Science or similar
Minimum of 2 years’ experience working within ecological consultancy
At least one licence for surveying protected species (e.g. bats, dormouse, great crested newt, white-clawed crayfish) or very close to achieving said licence
EPS Mitigation licence application experience
CIEEM Membership
Working experience in the production of technical reports, Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Ecological Impact Assessments, method statements, management plans, EPSM and BREEAM assessments
Experienced in habitat assessment and designing and developing survey programmes
Experienced in consulting with statutory and non-statutory nature conservation organisation
Expertise in MS Word and MS Excel
Good experience of safe working practices and risk assessment
Excellent organisational skills
Commercial acumen
IT literacy, particularly with MS Office packages
A full UK driving licence
Desirable expertise:

Ecology Clerk of Works experience
Natural England EPS Licence for Bats
Planning and highways experience
Experience of managing ecology workload on multiple projects in a consultancy setting
Experience with ArcGIS or QGIS and CAD
Experience of undertaken surveys for linear structure
