Overview

I have an excellent opportunity for a Principal Ecologist looking to take the next step in their career. My client is a well-known international multidisciplinary consultancy, looking to expand their presence in the West Midlands, they are looking to recruit into either their Birmingham, Nottingham or Chesterfield offices.
Main Responsibilities:

Assisting in the winning, delivery and management of ecological/EIA projects;
Managing the technical and financial performance of ecological projects;
Writing and reviewing Environmental Statement (ES) chapters and other ecological assessments;
Acting as a specialist in one or more areas of terrestrial and/or freshwater ecology which may include protected species;
Co-ordination of field and office-based work;
Liaising with internal project managers and clients to identify ecological requirements of new projects;
Providing technical review of ecological reports and other deliverables as required;
Managing and mentoring junior staff as required;
Organising and carrying out desk and field based ecological habitat and species surveys;
Liaising with clients, project managers and other project stakeholders including statutory bodies;
Undertaking other tasks to support the wider environmental business, as required.
Who you are:

Demonstrable track record in ecology consultancy including client and project management;
Experience of managing safety, technical, and commercial aspects of projects;
Experience of undertaking habitat surveys and protected species surveys as well as mitigation design and delivery;
Detailed knowledge of UK wildlife legislation, planning policy and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA);
Experience of ecological assessment in accordance with the CIEEM guidelines for terrestrial impact assessment in the UK;
Experience as a specialist in one or more areas of terrestrial or freshwater ecology which may include protected species;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing;
Comfortable working within a team, or alone;
UK Driving licence;
Flexible approach to working hours to meet the demands of the role, including occasional longer/and or unsociable hours, and to work away from home on occasions;
Ability to manage own time, and to mentor and motivate others;
Preferred Qualifications:

Essential:

First degree in relevant subject
Full Member of CIEEM
Advantageous:

Higher degree in a biological science or related discipline;
Chartered Ecologist (CEcol) or Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) status;
Experience of managing individuals or teams;
Advanced botanical identification skills;
Experience of freshwater habitat surveys and assessment; and
Holder of protected species survey and mitigation licences
Experience in Biodiversity Offsetting/ Natural Capital accounting
