Overview

The Ecology team within Mouchel Consulting is looking for talented and motivated graduate consultant to join their team. Key responsibilities of the role include:

•Undertake, and assist members of the ecology team with, survey work on project sites as required and dictated by project timescales
•Develop ecological knowledge and survey skills and demonstrate continual professional development, e.g. in identifying habitats and species found within the UK, learning standard survey methodologies and developing the ability to think critically about ecological information/data
•Undertake, and assist members of the ecology team with, mitigation work on project sites as required and dictated by project timescales
•Communicate findings of surveys and events on project sites clearly and concisely to senior members of the ecology team both verbally and through written documents.
•Demonstrate a professional and pragmatic attitude towards ecological issues on project sites and respect the chain of responsibility by consulting with, and if necessary, referring decision making to more senior members of the ecology team in order to best represent the needs of clients.
•Take responsibility for health and safety in all aspects of work, completing relevant training, qualifications and risk assessments as dictated by Mouchel procedures and those of clients
•Comply with Mouchel’s policies and procedures, including weekly completion of a timesheet
•Work may require travel in the UK or abroad.
ABOUT YOU

The successful candidate will have:
•Undergraduate degree in Nature Conservation, Ecology, Biology, or related environmental subject
•Full clean driving licence
•A broad understanding of ecological principles and current/historical nature conservation issues
We expect candidates to be able to demonstrate:
•Knowledge about British wildlife, the conservation issues it faces, and how it is protected by both planning policy and law
•A background of interest in ecology and the environment, ideally including volunteering with groups involved in the study of wildlife and its conservation
•A broad understanding of how ecological advice is used in planning and development, and an appreciation of the role of the ecological consultant
•Commercial awareness i.e. understanding the role of a consultant.
•Excellent report-writing and verbal skills.
•A commitment to a career in ecological consultancy by providing ecological advice and services to clients, and working with wildlife issues related to development projects
•Exceptional organisational skills and the ability to plan and implement project work independently
•The ability to work unsociable hours, outdoors, and often in difficult weather conditions whilst undertaking field studies, as dictated by the ecology of wildlife
•Fluency in the use of common computer packages to organise resources, analyse data and produce reporting documents
•Be able to communicate professionally in the English language, both verbally and through written work, and take responsibility for constantly improving standards of such work
•Act as part of a team of ecologists working together, exhibiting a positive influence to solve problems and achieve project goals
•Experience of using ArcGIS for making maps and organising spatial data would be advantageous
